Maatje visited on 24th Sep 2024 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 2 Access: 3 The Menhir is still in the backyard of a house, on the hilltop, though some further in the street. Look for the house with red rooftiles.
The right coordinates of Alnestrøya are 62.29096N and 5.58206E.
It was a pity we could not come closer, not from the hill and not via the backyard.
Menhir Alnestrøya must have had a stunning strategic view from the seaside as well from the fjordside.
It is inside a private garden, very close to a fence of a sheep pen and only about 5 metres from a private house.
The stone is around 2 metres in height, around 50cm wide and around 20cm thick. It is tilting a little to one side.
Just close to the stone, around 10 metres to the west, is a very pretty long barrow, it is around 20 metres long, around 5 metres wide and about 0,5 metres in height.
The site is overgrown with short grass with some longer grass growing around the edges of the sheep pen. It is a very windy spot, with strong winds coming from the open sea in the west.
